1.Yomiuri Cultural Festival work introduction(August)
Omikuji are sacred lots drawn at shrines or temples to tell one’s fortune. Many people are looking forward to draw a sacred lot at New year’s visit to a shrine or a temple.Other than a general box type that draw a stick written a number for getting a lot there are many kinds and forms which made an elaborate plans and lovely that modeled dolls or flowers or zodiac depend the place.Between the best good luck ‘Daikichi’ and the worst luck ‘Daikyo’ they have some kinds of luck as middle or small or so on. The order is different just a little between a shrine or a temple. If we got a bad luck we tie it to a branch in the shrine or temple and entrust the gods or Buddha so that bad luck never has come true.It is said that bad luck will be changed to good luck when we tie it by a hand opposite to the dominant hand.

“Sushi” has the history of more than 1,000 years and the first of sushi was “Funazushi” in Oumi (Shiga pref.). It was said that fish has been fermented spontaneously to produce acidity and artificially created. In the end of the 16 century, it added some rice to accelerate the fermentation and to eat with rice eventually developed, then, in the 17 century it added some vinegar to the rice and made it with fermented fishes, called “Haya-zushi”. And in the early 19 century “Nigiri-zushi”, that is made with fresh seafood, started and Sushi is popular throughout Japan today. About “Edo-mae Sushi”, Edo-mae means fresh fish and shellfish were caught in the coastal waters of Edo. Sushi restaurants served sushi quickly and inexpensively at food stalls while it was still fresh, which matched the hasty character of Edo persons. Then, Edo-mae sushi came into boom and spread throughout the country. Hako- zushi is also called “Osaka- zushi” meaning a local cuisine in Osaka sushi. It is made by pressing vinegared rice topped with high-grade fish such as marinated snappers, grilled and seasoned conger eels, and boiled shrimps in a square box-shaped utensil. Sukeroku Sushi” is a lunchbox of Inari-zushi (wrapped with fried beans) and Maki-zushi (rolled sushi), and derived from “Sukeroku” which is also the name of the hero appearing in Kabuki, called “Sukeroku Shoen Edo-zakura”. The hero “Sukeroku” wears purple-colored head-belt so it turns to “Maki-zushi” and his lover Agemaki means fried beans so it turns to Inari-zushi.

1.Yomiuri Cultural Festival work introduction(August)
①『The year of Rooster』
The year 2017 is the year of Rooster. We took up four themes concerning about the rooster; the character, the expressions, dishes, and storybooks. We realized our life and birds are connecting so close and understood other countries’ dishes and culture deeply. Our group members had great time to get through with this work. We would like to make use of them when we do goodwill guide activities.
The theme of our group was “fireworks”, one of the charms of summer in Japan with the four seasons. It was just the timely work in the Yomiuri Culture Festival held in Taiko-en Garden in Osaka City every midsummer. Since there were so many contents of fireworks we wanted to introduce, it was a hard work for us to summarize them in a compact size, which could be said about every theme. We tried to make our work perfect for fireworks by giving a brilliant impression, and also everyone in our group enjoyed finishing it.
We reported about a tea ceremony that is Japanese traditional culture at a summer-festival of the Yomiuri culture Center.‘Sado’ The way of Tea is not only to learn how to make a tea or what etiquette is.Tea ceremony is a one of the biggest event for guests that based on Japanese spirit of hospitality. The master would ready so carefully tea leaves of course and choose good water, some excellent ceramic cups(bowls), even seasonal flowers, a vase, a hanged-picture and so on. It is the best hospitality that the master gives attentions to every-detail and serves a cup of tea to the guest. That is a reason to learn the way of tea. Also ‘Maccha’ green tea for using in Sado that is milled after tea leaves were dried is good for your health for containing vitamins and minerals. One of a fun is to having a sweet Japanese cake like a seasonable flower as neutralize the bitterness of the tea when the tea ceremony.

３．Osaka guidance training(November)
Mr.Hideaki Koami and Mrs.Kazuko Soga.

1. Yomiuri Cultural Festival work introduction (August)
The “Yomiuri Cultural Festival” ended on August 13 and 14, 2016 in Taikoen Garden this year as well. Many people also stopped their feet in the work of the SGG club, and our members responded carefully, such as the difficulty of making a work. Below are the reasons for choosing the theme of the work for the leaders in charge of the three groups (the tourist spots where Japanese popular macaques are seen by foreign tourists, the difference between the Imperial Palace and the Castle, the difference between Geisha and Maiko), the difficulty of making a work, etc. Thank you for announcing a wonderful work this year.
①Discovery of Japanese Culture:The Etiquette of Kaiseki-ryori (Banquet cuisine会席料理),
Reason for choosing the theme: As Japanese food became a world cultural heritage last year, people who are interested in Japanese food from overseas and have called “kaiseki cooking” also increased. We introduced in Japanese and English about the difference between “Kaiseki cuisine（会席料理）” and “Kaiseki cuisine（懐石料理）”, a menu example and manners of general “Kaiseki cuisine（会席料理）”.
Difficulty of making a work: While there are few people who know Japanese manners of “kaiseki”, to know the differences among overseas, to translate from Japanese in an easy-to-understand manner in appropriate English, it took quite long time. As globalization of Japanese culture progresses, I think that it is necessary to explain briefly and clearly the hints on how to let foreign people know.
②”Tourist spots where Japanese monkeys popular with foreign tourists are seen”
We focused on three tourist spots named after this year’s Chinese zodiac. Nikko Toshogu Shrine and the Nikko monkey corps, which are world heritage sites. Jigokudani wild monkey park, famous for having a hot spring experience of Japanese culture and monkey entering outdoor hot spring. Arashiyama Iwata mountain monkey park where you can feed monkeys in nature. We examined each sightseeing attraction, and it was fun to make it for everyone including decorations. I wanted foreigners to see cute Japanese maca of Japanese specialties.
③”the difference between Geiko and Maiko”
The theme of this work is often very interesting as we are asked when we guide Kyoto from guests, so it was very interesting and we had a hard time narrowing down the content to be posted in our work. Through the difference between geiko and maiko, it became a very good opportunity to learn the tradition and practice of flower streets we did not know so far and we were able to create works fun.
④”Imperial Palace and Castle”
Our group took up about ‘Gosho and castle’ where foreign guests showed great interest and doubts about their relationship.
Where it was difficult: In finishing compactly with the expression as easy as possible, aiming for text that can be used at the time of guidance, it took time to get consensus on the placement of the originals brought together.
Good place: The stage of making panels which we made the work of our group could cooperate without hesitation and completed without problem.
２．Visit to the Cambodian consulate office
① Visit to Cambodian consulate office
On November 11 (Friday) Mrs. Hirouchi and nine volunteer club members visited the Honorary Consulate of Kingdom of Cambodia in Osaka Kita-ku. Honorary Consul Yamada Hideo Kim made a speech for us during the busy week and gave a talk about experiences of international exchange between Cambodia and Japan for many years. Professor Matsubayashi of former Cambodian Royal Law and Economics University joined us and it was a wonderful opportunity. To the question of each of us one by one, the director casually answered with kindness. To my surprise, knowing that Director Yamada was volunteering the work of Honorary Consul, I was deeply impressed by the extent and depth of grassroots international exchange. I also remembered the director of the same surname as Nagamasa Yamada who appears in history textbooks was the same name.
② Cambodia Seminar
The Cambodia Seminar was held at the Otemon Gakuin Satellite Seminar Room in Umeda, welcoming Professor Atsuhisa Matsubayashi who was a professor at the Royal Law and Economics University of Cambodia. Cambodia was a country whose time difference with Japan was not so far as 2 hours but it was a country unknown to me. Most people came to Buddhist dislikes fighting and taught me not to talk loudly and I felt similarity with Japan but Japanese people have to wait until the end time is I thought that the story that there was an indication that it would not protect positively meant the essence of the Japanese. Despite the short time, Mr. Matsubayashi gave me a wonderful feeling to Cambodia and conveyed various actual circumstances, and it became a seminar that makes us familiar with the country called Cambodia.
３．Kyoto guidance training (November)
Mr. Koami of Kyoto training leader gave a hands-on training of Fushimi-Inari shrine and Arashiyama’s guide, focusing on “asking foreigners frequently when guiding”, then a group going for maiko viewing (subordinate leader) and Nishiki market It is divided into a team going to Soga sub-leader, and the way of guiding tourist destinations in Kyoto, which is popular with foreigners who are coming to enjoy the autumn leaves, are always gaining great popularity from guests, Mr. Koami and Mrs. Soga Through the explanation of the two, it became meaningful Kyoto training.
We chose the road of Fushimi Inari Taisha and Arashiyama bamboo forest after receiving a big role of Kyoto guidance training course of SGG club extracurricular training. Mrs. Hirouchi guided us to frequently ask for foreign guests at the time of guidance we picked up the items according to the directions of the guidance and created a simple regimen in accordance with the instruction to be able to explain to SGG members. Information we explained about each item according to the regime at the site. Mrs. Hirouchi reaffirmed the importance of sharing information among all members while providing detailed advice in various scenes about the points that are missing and the information to be added. On that day, we bought a sunny day at Kyoto Station and bought a pack of lunch with a fragrance of early autumn, and travel spots selected by overseas guests To Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine, which is the number one in the world for the third consecutive year, it is multinational A lot of overseas guests have visited. Moving to Arashiyama, introducing Kimono Forest, after crossing the Togetsu Bridge, enjoying lunch with a refreshing wind in Nakanoshima, explanation of the way of bamboo forest to Soga sub leader asking Kyoto Tower I came. At the Maiko show, Mr. Komiko of Miyagawa Town appeared, we answered questions from overseas guests, questions from us with pleasure, and we accepted photographs carefully. I was able to know various things soon and it was a valuable experience. I would like to thank the members for your cooperation, thank you for your advice by Professor Hirouchi who was able to finish the training safely and happily without any problems.
Participate in Kyoto training (Maiko show appreciation group)
I realized how Fushimi Inari is popular with foreign tourists this time. Also, it was great that I could listen to the shooting spots and other points to keep in mind, especially at Fushimi Inari where I should explain and what to explain. In addition, when I used JR, I was able to use Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama for a very helpful thanks to what I was able to experience very usefully. Maiko show was explained to Maiko ” Geiko carefully in English, I also made a question and answer, and I thought that foreign tourists could fully understand it surely. Although dance is an easy setting, when Maiko began dancing, I felt that the air changed completely and it was drawn into the world altogether. It takes time and effort to set a reservation or schedule, but I thought that it was worth that much when used. Thank you for making me a valuable experience this time.
After having parted with the Maiko show appreciation group, I headed to Bamboo Forest, Nomiya Shinto shrine. As usual, the popular Nyomiya Shinto shrine was popular as a god of marriage, and was full of many visitors. Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine, Kinkakuji etc. The bamboo forest of the popular spot of foreign tourists is a place where there is a lot of information guidance, it is recommended to go out of the north gate and go out to the road of bamboo forest, after watching the garden of Tenryuji. To Nishiki Market we used Arashi and Hankyu trains, we went from the west end of the Nishiki market to the east end from Teramachi-dori to the Shinkyogoku / Nishiki Tenmangu shrine with a total length of 390 m. Last year it was 400 years since the shogunate accepted the title of a fish wholesaler and this year it was 300 years burning Ito It showed a tremendous bustle, shoppers were more foreign tourists than Japanese . I saw around the popular shops of foreign tourists here. In addition, we stopped at the shop “Kyomachiya Kishiu Le” as an eat-in space that we can bring in the dishes purchased at the Nishiki market with a one-order system opened last year in Yuya Machiya, and finished training at Nishiki Tenman at the final point I finished.
Join the Kyoto guidance extracurricular training (B group)
This time is the 1st extracurricular training so that in Fushimi Inari we first started with how to enter a torii at a basic shrine, learned how to use your hands and how to visit. In addition, when the special occasion was held at Shimono (shrine), the shrine maiden was able to listen to the story, a special place to dedicate God to drink and divine duty to God and expressions in English at special occasions. After that, I crossed Togetsu Bridge and after lunch broke up in the Nishiki market after going through the bamboo groves, Tenryuji, Nogamiya shrine. On the way, I was able to take interesting pictures at the dragon ball in the back of “Kimono Forest” at Arashiya Arashiyama station. Until now, as a tourist in Kyoto, it came unexpectedly as a tourist but it is also a season to have a sightseeing season from now on. As a guide, I visited sightseeing spots in a planned and efficient manner, and the historical background of temples and shrines I decided to be able to explain to the guests firmly.
４．Annual year party (December)
This year also at the Cafe Terrace Schola, there was an annual forgotten party every year. By the start time, we wrote a Christmas card to Mrs. Satake and Mrs. Sugiki in the lounge on the first floor. We had a cup of champagne at the venue on the second floor and gave the instructor a flower bouquet with thanks for the year. Even our instructor presented our goodwill guide members a calendar and sweets. Thank you very much. In addition, we got excited at the lottery of souvenirs etc. from guests. At the end, one word in English, each word was different in expression, but it was wonderful to say that “I am pleased and happy to be able to work together for the past year” we thought that it was.
